"When a chorus member is missing, her absence leaves more than the empty place on the risers where she used to stand.  Although the spot is filled with another voice and the music goes on, it takes awhile for the harmony to sound "right".  Her riser mates are used to hearing her voice, seeing her gestures, and feeling her presence.  Although they learn quickly to adapt and reblend, they don't forget; and for today we--her Region 14 sisters-- would like to remember. Carole SchauerCarole Schauer of Vienna Falls Chorus lost her courageous battle with cancer in September, 2011.  Carole  was an Assistant Director and the Tenor Head Section Leader for Vienna Falls Chorus as well as Tenor in Unchained Harmony Quartet.  She was the 2005 Sweet Adeline of the Year, helped with vocal warmups, did vocal assessments for new guests, and was in charge of the chorus' largest ongoing fundraiser.  Carole is irreplaceable and will leave a huge hole in her Director's heart and in Vienna-Falls Chorus.  The Sweet Adeline Heavenly chorus just gained an AWESOME tenor!!

Betty Grant

Betty Grant former director of Grand Strand Harmony and Azalea Coast, passed away August 15, 2011.  She had also directed the Cape Fear Chordsmen of the Barbershop Harmony Society.   Betty was an extremely talented director and arranger having taught arranging classes at Region 14 Summer Camps.  Although her health prevented her from being fully active in recent years, she continued to coach and arrange music for quartets in the area.  She sang with choruses in the Washington State, Idaho, Colorado, and Maryland.  She was also the an assistant director to Freddie King with the Dundalk Chorus in Baltimore, Md.  She sang professionally for several years including with some clubs in the Myrtle Beach area.  Her beautiful voice had the full range from bass to tenor, and she recorded some learning tapes in all parts.  Region 14 and the barbershop community at large, has suffered a huge loss of talent.  Betty's radiance will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know her.

Dottie Knox

Those of you that have been in the Region for a long time (since the 70's), will remember Dottie as the very first Regent of Region 14, when they changed the Regional Boundaries in 1976.  She was also a long time member of Vienna-Falls Chorus.  She and her sister, Vi Scharr, were movers and shakers of this region back in the 70's and 80's.  Many of you probably remember fun times spent at "Camp Knox"  swimming in their family pool.  There were lots of coaching sessions and various regional events held there.  Dottie and her husband, Carl, moved to Florida in the 90's and were missed by everyone in the Region. Dottie is missed.

Carol Ann Yerkes

When a chorus member is missing, her absence leaves more than the empty place on the risers where she used to stand.  Although the spot is filled with another voice and the music goes on, it takes awhile for the harmony to sound "right".  Her riser mates are used to hearing her voice, seeing her gestures, feeling her presence.  Although they learn quickly to adapt and reblend, they don't forget; and for today we--her Song O'Sky sisters-- would like to remember.  During her 17years as a Sweet Adeline, Carol was part of the the chorus in so many ways.  Her beautiful voice strengthened the Lead section, and no matter where she stood on the risers, her radiant smile and petite figure enhanced the entire group.  As Costume Chair for many years, her own sense of style kept the chorus looking sharp and fashionable.  She took time to make sure colors flattered everyone and that the fit was comfortable.  Uneven hemlines and unpolished shoes were "no no's".  Even though her own feet ached with bunions, she never asked permission to wear anything but chorus shoes, herself.  She knew what it meant to be a real Sweet Adeline.  Carol also asked to be in charge of the "Sunshine Fund".  For every card written, Carol added a personal message.  This quality of care and concern, of going beyond social courtesy, was her hallmark.  Carol had three loves in her life:  her deep spiritual faith that sustained her though personal tragedy as well as her long and difficult bout with cancer, her devoted family--husband Jim, daughter Lisa, and her grandchildren, and Song O' Sky Chorus.  We miss her.

Carol Conway

Carol was a member of Potomac Harmony Chorus and she shared her love of barbershop with others for 53 years.  As a member of the Southern Yankees Quartet, she was Regional Champion in 1967.  She served as Associate Director, Music Education Chair, Music Judge, and Ozzi's Go To Gal for fixing chords.  She was also known as Carol's At The Spinet.  She was a mentor and friend to many.  She will be missed.

Barbara MacKnick

As a member of Potomac Harmony Chorus, she had a wonderful bass voice and was a role model to all.  She had a keen sense of humor!!  She was a committed member with great musical knowledge and a quiet sense of conviction and determination.  She did a great job as emcee and sang between announcements.  She was dedicated and talented!

Judi Forrest

Judi was a passionate and devoted member of the Skyline Harmony Chorus from 1998 until her death in January 2011.  She volunteered her many talents in diverse areas of our chorus life.  Over the years, Judi served as President, Financial Coordinator and Costume Chair; in addition, she designed our logo, served on the Choreography Committee, each Show Committee and always explored using current technology and software to improve our communication and outreach to the community.  Judi loved attending SAI events, especially International Conventions, and was avid about all Sweet Adeline paraphernalia.  She was enthusiastic in serving as Region 14's Add-A-Line editor and was relentless in her drive to make it a first-class publication.  Judi's death was premature and very emotional for all of us but we now can sing in her honor, knowing that she would have expected us to sing with joy, love, and passion.
