REGIONAL NEWS!!!!!

In January 2012, choruses throughout the world are welcoming interested singers to experience what it’s like to sing with Sweet Adelines International. We are looking for singers to join the thousands of members who value the joy of singing chord-ringing, fun-filled music.

There are more than 500 Sweet Adelines choruses throughout the globe that meet regularly to practice, socialize, perform and sing a cappella harmony, barbershop style. It’s a sweet experience to sing with a worldwide chorus of friends. Whatever tone your voice, there is a singing part for you. The music includes special arrangements of today’s ballads and upbeat songs, popular show tunes, and even jazz. Members say that singing the satisfying sounds of barbershop harmony provides a rich, rewarding experience.

Members of Sweet Adelines International share fun social activities, an enlarged circle of friends and exciting performance opportunities. Discover why thousands of women around the world are singing the praises of Sweet Adelines International.

To start singing, locate a local chorus (also called chapters) near you by using the online Chapter Directory search.  You can also click on the chorus tab and you will see all of the regional choruses and their contact information.  The members will be happy to assist you and will welcome you to a chorus rehearsal.

Below you will see the excitement that choruses around the region shared as they had their guest nights.

Greenville in Harmony set a chorus record with 49 visitors attending our Open House! Our "Open House" consisted of a formal program that included Nancy Field teaching the guests "I'd like to Teach the World to Sing". Jenny Gordon taught 2 easy rounds and I must admit, with over 100 people in attendance (including our members), the sound was fantastic! We had refreshments, door prizes and 3 of our members gave testimonials of why they joined GIH. Lighten Up Quartet performed as well as the GIH chorus. Lots of humor rounded out the night and several ladies commented that they would be back next week. We are looking forward to growing Region 14!

Hello Region 14!

Song O' Sky's Open House featured Tags in sets that were short and ---SWEET! It was a lot of fun with a mixed guest list--2 ladies (who intend to return) and 2 men who "saw the ad and wanted to hear the music since we didn't know women sang barbershop."  They stayed for most of the sessions and really got into our promo-- "Get Into The Sing Of Things"-with our energetic line dance physical warm up. Who knows? We may get some referrals from their enthusiasm. A fun start to a new year.

Greater Richmond had a wonderful time, despite really lousy weather.  We had warmups, introductions, got our guests on the risers for Dancing Queen....always a favorite!! After a social time, we continued our rehearsal.  Most of the guests remained for the whole evening!!!

peace,

Foothills Harmony was thrilled with six guests.  They joined us for physical and vocal warm-ups which ended with a simple tag.  I took the guests to another room for a simple explanation of our chorus and Sweet Adelines International.  I followed Joan Boutilier's plan of 30 minutes for the Guests with emphasis on the culture of our chorus and Sweet Adelines.  Using the categories as an outline, I told them what we work on as singers and performers.  Then...Q & A.  Following that, we performed 3 songs for our guests and, together, they learned the first two pages of I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.  Although the guests were told they could leave at that point, they all stayed and participated in the rest of the rehearsal of competition songs.  Or, did they stay for the promise of special cupcakes?????

It was a fun, FUN evening for all and we look forward to seeing most of them back next week along with more new guests.  Here's to building our choruses, our region, and our wonderful Sweet Adelines International!

Southern Harmony Chorus was very excited to have three guests!!  After some social time and picture taking, they worked with Tom for the first hour learning the ins and outs of barbershop.  When they chorus came back, they were given guest books and they continued to watch our rehearsal.  We ended the evening with them singing Thank you Dear Lord.  We are very thankful for all of our guests and hope that more join us next week.

Potomac Harmony Chorus-  Thanks to ALL of our guests who came to our Open House!!  We had an awesome night, with NINETEEN guests (plus three gentlemen who came to listen, too!) tonight!!  We had a wonderful evening!  We can't wait for next week!!!

DECEMBER NEWS

On December 13, Song O' Sky Show Chorus members performed at Asheville's Biltmore Estate as part of the Candelight Tours at Biltmore. This has become an annual event for us as well as Carolina Style and Greenville in Harmony choruses. Maybe some others, also?  We perform 4-5 thirty minute sets, and in between we are free to tour the rooms that have been lavishly decorated for the holidays. Seeing them by candlelight is a pleasure we look forward to every year.

Southern Harmony Chorus had the pleasure of singing at the Horizon Bay Assisted Living Center.  The residents all had a great time and we enjoyed bringing some holiday joy to them!!
