Musical Experience: I was the director of Golden Triad Chorus for over thirty years. I directed Triad Harmony Express of SPEBSQSA for 2+ years, taking them to second place in the district. I have been pianist and/or organist of several churches, as well as being on call to fill in at churches during the absence of their instrumentalist or choir director. I am currently the choir director at the Wallburg Baptist Church. I still play/sing for weddings/funerals.

I have coached many choruses and quartets both male and female

I have helped, along side Dr. Roland Moy, with high school/college contests by teaching a session of barbershop style music and then being one of the judges for the contests.

I worked with a member of the Society Swing Band to put their music and our music together for several numbers to be performed in an annual show.

I have played the baby grand Steinway piano for the High Point Happytones in the East Wing of the White House and later became their director. We performed many places, including the Biltmore House in Asheville during Christmas. We won first place in our area contest and then second place in the senior games of the North Carolina contest.

I was invited to Carnegie Hall as a director to observe two Sweet Adeline chorus performances and in hopes of my chorus eventually performing.

I have sung with the Society Swing Band which, of course, is big band music from the 40’s; I have played keys and sung with a country/western group; I have sung with an area jazz ensemble; and in my youth, played and sang with a rock band. I sang in a trio in college, played at a coffee house, and played ukulele with my college roommate. In high school/college, I was the lead lady in drama theatre.

Education: Gardner-Webb College and East Carolina University majoring in Business Administration. Lots of Education Credit Units from Sweet Adelines and business.

Professional Affiliation: Currently, Choir Director at my church. Last position was Consumer Representative for Planters/Lifesavers Corp which is part of RJR/Nabisco.

Faculty Objective:
My objective is to help choruses (primarily), through coaching sessions, to improve their singing and performance skills. While a large focus is placed on contest preparation, I also want to assist choruses throughout the year, working on show music or other repertoire, and also doing PVIs. I also love to work with quartets.

Regional Experience:
I have been a member of the Regional Faculty since 1987. I have coached choruses and quartets. I have given many PVIs, and I have taught classes (mostly music theory and beginning arranging). I also teach tags and can teach general vocal production classes.

Musical Experience:
I have a Bachelor of Music Education degree from James Madison University. My major instrument was the clarinet. I also play the saxophone. I have extensive performance experience on both instruments in orchestras and jazz bands.
I joined Sweet Adelines in 1984 and have been a member of the Vienna-Falls Chorus the entire time, becoming director in 1993. In the mid 80’s, I directed another chorus in Region 14 (Country Chimes…no longer around) for 3 years. I have competed in several quartets….one of which won the regional championship in 1989.

Faculty Objective:

The opportunity to work with individual singers as well as quartets and chapters is exciting and rewarding. As a Vocal Performance Coach I strive to enhance the overall performance level of each singer. I evaluate each learning situation and then implement a plan to teach the performer(s), as well as their “in-chapter” educators, how to “make habit” the vocal and performance skills that will raise their levels of performance. I will continue my efforts to infuse our educators/learners with the desire and confidence to move forward in their abilities.

In support of our region’s educational goals, I plan to continue my personal growth of enriching my coaching abilities through continuing educational classes at not only International and Regional levels, but at local colleges and through my own private vocal performance coaching. My work with local theater and church choirs will enhance my teaching abilities as well as hone those skills I’m still working to perfect. Faculty Objective: I would like to help both choruses and quartet score higher at contest, make wise choices in the “business” of their groups, and still cherish the joy of ringing a chord.

International Experience: I am in the judging program as an approved candidate music judge. I have trial scored and judged for three years.

Previous: I was on the regional music faculty in region 25 for several years before I moved to NC

Musical Experience:
I sang in my former quartet, Crystal Collection, for 21 years. We competed Internationally several times, once as a regional winner and several more times as a wild card. We also competed at the Buckeye Invitational twice.
My former chorus, Prairie Winds, competed at the Buckeye once, and competed at the mid-size contest at IES last year. I have been assistant director, section leader (lead and bass), music staff chairman, president, vice president, secretary, membership chair, show chair, costume chair and a host of other positions.

BS in Education – never used it. I worked at the DA’s office in Texas for 11 years before moving, and I am now employed at the Charlotte PD as an office assistant.
