THE REVAMPED DIRECTOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

The Director’s Certification Program is now available online via the Learning Management System (LMS) on the SAI website. All DCP modules have been substantially or completely rewritten as of summer 2024. Best of all, ANYONE can purchase a module, you don’t have to be a director. Directors who want to become certified must purchase and be tested on all modules, but any chorus member can buy modules individually.
Conducting Skills gives a lot more guidance for beginning directors.
Rehearsal Planning includes several different approaches to riser placement and helps in planning your rehearsals over a year or more as well as week to week.
Analytical Listening provides guidance on what to listen for in your chorus, then determines what to work on.
The Performance module addresses planning for community performances as well as big theatre shows and covers topics like managing stage fright.
Vocal Production has been completely rewritten and includes graphics and links to online resources/videos. Techniques such as SOVT are explained in depth.
Teaching and Coaching Skills include a lot more explanation of how adults learn and how we can keep them challenged and motivated.
Management and Communication Skills have been enhanced with more recent concepts and approaches and includes the latest information on copyright procedures.
The Judging Categories module has been updated to keep pace with the latest changes in the JCDB.
Some features of the LMS:
You can study modules at any time, in any order.
The LMS includes lots of photos and graphic illustrations.
Features like flash cards and graphic buildouts keep your mind engaged, instead of wading through paragraphs of text.
Self-test quizzes are built into the system.
Module tests can be taken ON YOUR SCHEDULE – in any time zone!
Best of all, the DCP on the LMS can now be explored by ANY MEMBER. You do not have to be enrolled in the DCP for certification – just buy an LMS module and start learning
Section leaders who want to understand more about giving PVIs can study the Teaching and Coaching module and the Vocal Production module.
Assistant directors who need new ideas for vocal warmups can study both the Rehearsal Planning and the Vocal Production modules – lots of great suggestions in both.
Choreographers who want to know more about how to work with the Director more effectively can study the Management Skills and Communication Skills module.
Members who just want to learn to read music can study the Music Theory module.
Show and Performance managers can study the Performance module and get lots of up-to-date information about planning and orchestrating a great performance.
Membership chairs can review the Organizational Knowledge and Communication Skills modules to ensure they are giving the latest and greatest information about our organization.
